Here I Am, Ready to Send
Sometimes our problems become our strengths.
I’m thinking of my planned marketing of myself and my books. I intend to reach teens and young adults as a fervent, but very troubled atheist who is now a Christian. I can tell about:
- adventures and recovery afterward
- beautiful nature
- warm relationships
- healthy romance
- God in real, cutting-edge science.
May I be willing and unafraid to go to both the friends and opposers of Christianity that the Lord asks me to visit.

This morning I asked the question, “What makes my book stand out from others in its genre?” It took quite some thinking to come up with a reason why people should buy my Soul’s Warfare sci-fi books more than others in the YA sci-fi genre written by equally—at least!—competent authors.
Like other YA and adult novels, my stories are fun to read. Reasonably well-written. Recently, I listened to the Audible version of The Horned Edge. I liked it. Last night I listened to the Audible version of The Cave Chamber. At some parts in the books, I shook my head at the mistakes of a novice author. At other parts I glowed at my brilliance.
Overall, I was entertained. That’s good. But what makes my books outstanding?
I finally thought of some reasons why people should buy my books in particular more than other choices.
- The books’ science is real, and it advocates God’s creation rather than random evolution.
- I openly show my characters wrestling with Christianity and the concept of Jesus as Savior and Lord of the universe throughout their adventures.
- I proclaim a real hope both for right now and for our universe’s future.
So, in my marketing, I can emphasize these reasons to buy and read my books.

About Assertion, a Both/And America, and God Active in Science

Three topics come together in Rosemary B. Althoff’s Soul’s Warfare series, They are all taught in the Bible by the Lord of Words, that is, Jesus. And, as far as my limited education and experience goes, the concepts are the theme of all my endeavors.
Here are the conflicts in the stories:
- Assertive communication.
In Book 1, The Hot Marble, of the Soul’s Warfare series, lack of assertion gets characters in trouble. The main character, young physicist Lewis’s best friend Fred betrays him because of jealousy and low self-esteem. - A unified, both/and America.
In Book 3, The Horned Edge, and the in-progress Book 4 (From Silence to Singing), a sinister political and spiritual movement that fosters divisive thinking threatens to conquer two worlds—including Earth and Lanthra. - God active in the physical universe.
In Book 2, Lewis learns the hard way that human endeavor alone cannot conquer the enemy.
How can people interact without fighting? Through respectful assertion. How can a nation in conflict heal? With confirming communication, which is dropping the all-or-nothing thinking and replacing it with (informed) both/and thinking. How can people who love God bring Him into the world’s conversation? By realizing that the omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient loving One who made all universes (if there are more than one!) is active in our physical reality—in the past, in the future, and right now.
